It’s one of Imane’s favourite sessions, but what is it?

What's a Future Life Progression?

A future life progression is a session that uses hypnosis to look at how you can achieve specific goals in a specified time frame. In one on one sessions, I usually look at one year from now and 5 years from now, but you can choose a different time frame too.

It is often done when facing decisions, for instance if you are thinking of changing jobs or moving to another country.

I like them to achieve progress in a relationship (and am very excited that Doug Buckingham is presenting a session on your future harmonious relationships on 12th of March!)

Remember a relationship can be not just with a person but with a concept or a material thing.

For instance you can work on your relationship with money or with marriage.

It can also be with yourself or your body.

This is how I usually run a one on one Future Life Progression:

The session is in 5 steps

Step 1

The story so far.

We start by creating a representation of the relationship up until now. Using hypnosis, we identify key moments and core beliefs or ideas that were created. We write out a time-line with key words. Sometimes we also use drawings or other ways of being creative.

Step 2

The intention

What is it you would like to achieve?

Here the focus is on what you would like to feel and experience.

Step 3

The Life Progression

Using hypnosis, you visualise what would happen going forwards using three scenarios: 1. if you did nothing and continued as is, 2. if you take the decision you are considering and 3. what would be great for me that I have not even thought of? (Depending on the client and the reason for the session, these may vary).

Step 4

The obstacles

What is stopping you from achieving your intention? What concrete steps do you need to take to facilitate this outcome? What beliefs do you need to address?

Step 5

The manifestation

We bring it all together. You visualise a path going forwards before you and see yourself manifesting your intention. We work on setting up the right energy for this and making it flow towards your goal.

I love these sessions because it’s like building a new house: you spend time thinking about what you’d like to build, how you’d like to feel living in it, what you need to do in order to build it, how much it will cost, how long it will take… It’s very much an enabling session. The danger with it is when clients get lulled into thinking imagining it is enough! Of course it’s not. Just like the house, you need to have well drawn architect plans to build a fabulous house, but they alone are not enough. You also need to put in the work and be realistic about what you can achieve.

That’s how I typically run a future life progression, but different therapists will have different approaches and ways to structure a session…

 

Group Future Life Progression Sessions are also lovely. By definition, as they are aimed for a group, they will have a more generalised intention and not be so specific in what they can achieve, but I really enjoy them and have found them really helpful. They unlock the door to future outcomes and allow us a look in.
